Die Freie Demokratische Partei (Kurzbezeichnung: FDP, von 1968 bis 2001 F.D.P.) ist eine liberale Partei in Deutschland, die ihre politischen Wurzeln in der Bewegung des Vormärz hat. Die FDP war von 1949–1956, von 1961–1966, von 1969–1998 und ist seit 2009 als jeweils kleinerer Koalitionspartner an der Bundesregierung beteiligt (siehe Liste der deutschen Bundesregierungen). Damit war sie auf Bundesebene insgesamt länger in Regierungsverantwortung als jede andere deutsche Partei seit Gründung der Bundesrepublik. Bei der Bundestagswahl 2013 verfehlte die FDP die Fünf-Prozent-Hürde und schied mit der Konstituierung des neuen Bundestags am 22. Oktober 2013 aus dem Parlament aus. Die FDP ist in 9 von 16 deutschen Landesparlamenten sowie im Europaparlament vertreten und aktuell in Sachsen und in Hessen an einer schwarz-gelben Regierungskoalition auf Landesebene beteiligt.

The Free Democratic Party (German: Freie Demokratische Partei), abbreviated to FDP, is a liberal and classical liberal political party in Germany. The FDP is led by Philipp Rösler and, until the 2013 federal election, served as the junior coalition partner to the Union (Christian Democratic Union and Christian Social Union) in the German federal government.
The FDP, which strongly supports human rights, civil liberties, and internationalism, has shifted from the centre to the centre-right over time. Since the 1980s, the party has firmly pushed economic liberalism, and has aligned itself closely to the promotion of free markets and privatisation. It is a member of the Liberal International and Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE) Party, and is the joint-largest member of the ALDE Group group in the European Parliament.
